Thank you Rachel Aronson for the engaging presentation for our third general meeting! Rachel joined us from across the nation, New York, working as an environmental educator and sustainability manager. Currently, she is planning on teaching people about sustainability, ecology, and New York City history with Fresh Kills Park, which involves leading tours for schools and community groups. |

Incredibly lucky to have Chris Buckley from the University of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa share his experiences with our club. Chris is a research professor in the School of Engineering, and Head of the Pollution Research Group (PRG). He has been involved in work concerning water and effluent management for over 40 years, working with organizations such as the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the National Science Foundation. Currently, he is researching multiple areas of waste and wastewater management, including waste minimalization, biological treatment processes, and rural and peri urban sanitation. |

A very informative 5th general meeting presented by Bjoern Pietruschka. Bjoern is an environmental scientist from Germany, who has worked as an Environmental Research Coordinator with the German NGO Bremen Overseas Research and Development Association. He has worked to improve the understanding and function of decentralized water and fecal sludge in treatment systems. |

Special thank you to Dr. Nancy Love, P.E., BCEE. for joining us on our 6th general meeting. Dr. Love has held leadership positions in multiple environmental organizations, including the Water Environmental Association (WEF), the international Water Association (WA), and the Association of Environmental Engineering and Science Professors (AEESP). She has also advised over 70 graduate students and post-doctoral research associates, as well as co-authored over 100 peer reviewed papers, chapters, and reports. |

A wonderful 7th general meeting to kick off the spring semester. Thank you to Andrew Tran, an environmental engineer from Brown and Caldwell and Cal Poly Pomona Alumni. Since joining BC, Andrew has gained a wide variety of experience in planning, design and construction support, and condition assessment for municipal wastewater treatment. His current focus is the design of anaerobic digestion facilities with one digestion project currently in construction and another in preliminary design. |

A very exciting meeting presented by three Cal Poly Pomona Alumni currently studying at Kansas State University. Thank you Emily, Chris, and Kahao for the insight of the research in wastewater treatment, resource recovery, and harmful algal blooms. These individuals are also NSF NRT Graduate fellows working on interdisciplinary teams to tackle problems with a more holistic approach. |

Thank you Elvira Ramirez for coming to the meeting to talk about her experience as a student and part time professor! Elvira Ramirez is currently a Cal Poly Pomona graduate student pursuing a Master's in Civil Engineering with a focus in Environmental and Water Resources Engineering. Her thesis work focuses on the dynamics of water quality in reclaimed water distribution systems. |

A successful 3rd meeting, thanks to one of our newest faculty, Professor Li! Dr. Simeng Li joined the Civil Engineering Department at Cal Poly Pomona as an Assistant Professor after his graduation from Florida State University. Dr. Li conducts and advances research in multiple areas, including water reclamation, resource and energy recovery, soil and groundwater remediation, and sustainability. He also dedicates himself to teaching different environmental and water resources courses. In his spare time, Dr. Li enjoys road cycling and mountain hiking. |

Christopher DeMonbrun, P.E., is an Environmental Engineer in the Wastewater Engineering Services Division at LA Sanitation. LA Sanitation (LASAN) collects, cleans and recycles solid and liquid waste generated by residential, commercial and industrial users in the City of Los Angeles and surrounding communities. |

Thank you Mr. Trejo for livening up our meeting with a wonderfully enthusiastic and engaging presnetation! Reymundo Trejo, P.E., brings a broad range of experience in the municipal infrastructure projects business to his role as Executive Director and Chief Engineer at SAFNA. Over the course of more than 24 years in both private and public sector organizations, Trejo has overseen advanced water treatment, conveyance infrastructure, water conveyance, and regional-scale sustainability programs including water use efficiency and recycled water valued over $1 billion. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Environmental Engineering from USC. |

Kristopher McGinnis is an Environmental Scientist with the Los Angeles County Sanitation District, one of the largest wastewater pretreatment administrators in the United States. Kristopher received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry in 2011 from Cal Poly Pomona and is currently certified as an Environmental Compliance Inspector Grade 2 through the California Water Environment Association. |

John Robinson has more than 25 years of experience in planning, design, environmental documentation and construction management for water and wastewater clients. He received his Bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering from the California State University of Long Beach. Mr. Robinson's experience encompasses planning and design for potable water, groundwater, wastewater engineering, storm water and recycled water projects. Mr. Robinson is also involved in California Water Environment Association and served as the Past President for the Los Angeles Basin Section. |

Bret Green currently has 29 years of experience in project engineering and design of civil and structural projects, including concrete wet wells, masonry building to house pumps and electrical equipment for water/wastewater facilities. He has designed steel product tanks, earthen dike containment areas, access roadways for existing and new petroleum storage facilities. He has also designed pipe supports, valve supports, and concrete vaults for product and crude pipelines. Mr. Green has extensive experience designing industrial facilities that include truck and rail loading of products, access roadways, and steel structure to route piping and electrical conduit throughout various production areas. |

Carolyn Soy graduated from Cal Poly Pomona and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering last spring. She was also the 2016-2017 Project Manager of the Environmental Design Team at the Pacific Southwest Conference and served as the 2017-2018 CWEA-AWWA President. Carolyn is currently a Civil Estimator at Kiewit Infrastructure West, focused on constructing wastewater/water treatment plants, sewer rehabilitation, and pump station improvements in San Diego, Hawaii, and Southern California. |
